Celtic Designs
From the author - -
Introduction
There is nothing worse than sitting in front or a blank sheet of paper, your mind either as empty as the paper, or full of imagery but frustrated that you will never be able to transfer any of those thoughts into reality. The patterns within this book will hopefully give you the resolve and inspirational foundation to embark or transfer those ideas on to your chosen project.I am hoping too that you will be inspired to adapt the designs, perhaps by bringing together pleasing elements from different images, or by creating multiple images of one pattern and linking them together. With time and perseverance you will gain confidence in your skills and abilities, and embark on your own designs, creating something that is very special to you and that comes totally from your own inspiration.
About the designs
Many of the patterns within this book are based on Hiberno-Saxon designs created in Britain and Ireland from the 6th to the 1 2th century. They can be found carved in stone and on fine decorative church metalwork, elaborate jewellery and the highly illuminated pages of the Gospel books. Patterns such as the spiral and knotwork were not the invention of Celtic artisans, but were some of the first symbols used by humans to express their spirituality and the wonder of the world around them. It is the skill and imagination of Celtic and Saxon artists who took these patterns and adapted them, creating intricate and complex designs that still inspire us today - in works such as the Books of Kells and Lindisfarne and the Cross of Cong. And finally
Art is a great relaxing therapy for a sometimes stressful world. Whether you simply colour the patterns in this book, create your own designs, or adapt the illustrations to fit your own craft skill, I hope you find enjoyment, inspiration and peace within these pages.Soft cover, 32 pages.
