$6.00 ($5.45) / needle case

Section 1 Straw Needles
Best known for use in hand applique, the Straw needle has a narrow shank that glides easily through several layers of fabric. Since the eye of the needle is punched within the existing shank, it does not hesitate at the eye when pulled through fabric. The Straw needle is also useful for basting, hand piecing, and applique.

Size 11 Straw Needles
The Size 11 Straw needle is extra fine and flexible. It is the size preferred for intricate hand applique. It also works very well for beading projects.
Size 10 Straw Needles
The Size 10 Straw is the same length as the Size 11 Straw needle but it is slightly thicker. The thicker shank accommodates a larger eye, making it easier to thread than the Size 11. It's thick shank also keeps it from bending while stitching. Jeana prefers the Size 10 for the majority of her applique stitching. She also recommends it for beginners who are trying Straw needles for the first time.
Size 9 Straw Needles
The Size 9 Straw needle is a little longer and a little thicker than the Size 10 Straw needle. It is ideal for hand piecing and basting.
Size 8 Straw Needles
The Size 8 Straw needle is thicker and longer than the Size 9 Straw needle. Jeana uses it for both basting and hand quilting. When using the template-free or back-basting method of preparation for applique, the Size 8 Straw needle is recommended. You may also find, as Jeana did, that tiny quilting stitches are easily possible with the Size 8 Straw.

Section 2 Sharp Needles
Sharps needles are best known as "all purpose" hand sewing needles. They are longer and finer than the Betweens/Quilting needle. Sharps are also shorter and finer than Straw needles. Some prefer Sharps needles for simple mending tasks, others like it for hand applique and still others prefer to use Sizes 8 and 9 for hand quilting.

Size 11 Sharp Needles
Sharps needles are best known as "all purpose" hand sewing needles. They are longer and finer than the Betweens/Quilting needle. Sharps are also shorter and finer than Straw needles. Some prefer Sharps needles for simple mending tasks, others like it for hand applique and still others prefer to use Sizes 8 and 9 for hand quilting. Section 3 Between Needles
Betweens needles were designed specifically for hand quilting. More specifically, they were made for the traditional hand quilting done at a quilting frame or hoop. When using the traditional "rocker" method of hand quilting, the needle's short shank provides easy control. The Betweens needle is thicker than other needles, giving it added strength for moving through a quilt's multiple layers. Equally small quilting stitches are possible with any size of Betweens needles. Make your needle choice based on its comfort in your hand and your ability to thread it.

Size 12 Between Needles
The Size 12 Betweens needle is very short and very thin. Many hand quilters prefer it for getting the smallest of stitches. The eye of the Size 12 Betweens is tiny; some 100% cotton quilting threads are too large to thread through it's eye. The Size 11 Betweens needle is the same length and a little thicker than the Size 12. If the Size 12 breaks often or if is too difficult to thread, you may find the Size 11 Betweens to be a better choice.
Size 11 Between Needles
The Size 11 Betweens needle is a combination of the best characteristics of the Size 12 Between and the Size 10 Betweens needles. It is the identical length of the Size 12 Betweens needle and the same diameter of the Size 10 Betweens needle. It's length provides good control when using the "rocker" hand quilting method, and it's diameter keeps it from breaking easily.
Size 10 Between Needles
The Size 10 Betweens needle is preferred by many hand quilters. It is long enough to handle easily, and thick enough to prevent frequent breaking from the pressure of the thimble when using the "rocker" method of hand quilting.
Size 9 Between Needles
The Size 9 Betweens needle is a little longer and thicker than the Size 10 Betweens needle.
Size 8 Between Needles
The Size 8 is the longest and thickest of all of the Betweens/Quilting needles. It is appreciated for it's strength and durability.
